What if Mexico declared war on America in WW1?

What if Mexico agreed to Germany's terms in the Zimmerman Note and attempted to invade America? I think it would have forced America into World War 1 quicker, but of course Mexico would get owned. Then we would liberate Mexico and install a friendly government (more make them a territory/state). What do you think would have happened?

Hard to say, never thought about it. Would be a good scenario for the History Channel to act out. What if they had waited until WW2 when we were up to out arses fighting around the World??

Was that Zimmerman note real? I'd heard it was a fraud, intending to 'motivate' Americans to join the war on Britain's side. At the time there were as many Americans supporting Germany as Britain, and the majority couldn't care less. I thought this note was a fake, trying to sway Americans to pick a side.

Don't ask me for a source - I don't know how things like this get in my head.

Wouldn't SWEAR that it was real, but I'm about 90% sure it was. President Carranza had his hands full, was no fool, and flatly turned down the idea.

Yes, it was real. Sorry to derail the thread.

However, anyone wanted a freaking fascinating read should go directly to read about the backstory of this incident. I just went to the wikipedia page and man... that's cool stuff.

The Brits intercepted the coded message because they were monitoring US lines (a no no) and had broken German code after capturing equipment off a German ship in a battle off Finland. So the Brits knew the message but couldn't let the US know it was monitoring their lines, and couldn't let the Germans know they'd broken their code.
