    Where is the Centre of Europe?

    Today, there is still a debate about exactly where the centre of Europe is...there are at least a dozen places that claim this title. Does anyone know the answer to this?

    What I do know is that there is young family who is taking a venture to find the answer on a 3 week trip around Europe in a Land Rover using a Navman to guide them there. With the hope to find the true answer, the family (Justin Leighton and co) will be posting regular blogs and photos with any discoveries they find along the way on www.journey2.tv

    In the meantime, I would love to hear any thoughts about where the centre of Europe is today...

    The center of Europe is Washington D.C.

    I always think of germany as the centre of europe, but that may just be me
    But then thinking about it, somewhere in the middle of poland is probably a better guess. ^^

    Geographically speaking? I'm not sure I care too much, but in spirit I'm going with Berlin.

    Re: Where is the Centre of Europe?

    According to good old Wiki

    Bernotai, or Purnuškės near Vilnius in Lithuania;
    a point on the island of Saaremaa in Estonia;
    the village of Krahule, near Kremnica in central Slovakia;
    the small town of Rakhiv, or the village of Dilove near Rakhiv, in western Ukraine;
    Suchowola, north of Białystok, in north-eastern Poland; and Toruń in the northern part of central Poland;
    Babruysk or Vitebsk in Belarus;

    Hmm, I vote for the village of Krahule in central Slovakia, all the rest sound too far east

    I measure a society by it's contributions to civilization if that were the case there are two choices.

    In terms of philosophical, religious, artistic and literary achievement your looking at Greece.

    Architecturally your looking at the Romans politically it's a standoff between Rome and Greece.
