Just think......these are the future of our country.
“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.”

Throwing money at the system isn't going to fix anything

It certainly hasn't so far. As a matter of fact, federal increases in education spending have correlated with a decline in educational results. Coincidence?

    Yes.

The problem with our education system is that the kids walk into a room, the teacher says, "Here's what I'm teaching," and lays it on the table. Some kids learn visually, some learn by reading, some by listening, some approach things broadly and get narrower, others vice-versa... But if your method of learning what's going on around you doesn't translate into you "getting it" when the teacher puts up the one offering, the one method, the one approach to learning that you're going to get, then you're just not going to get it.

Our schools SUCK and they have for a long, long time. There are talented, innovative teachers who know how to teach a classroom full of kids with different strengths and weaknesses, using very well documented methods that have been used in dribs and drabs around the country, and the fucked up shitty reality is that these people, absolutely without question the best and brightest of the teaching profession, are jealously squashed by the insecure half-wit morons with tenure that sit on the boards and drive the politics. Some of the most effective teaching techniques are illegal in some states because the simple, tiny little insecure fucks that make the call don't fully grasp what their BETTERS are doing, and so they shut it down, lest somebody out there succeed and shine like the superstar teacher that they are, sucking some of the puffed up bureaucratic phoney importance away from these selfish, insecure blowhards.

The states need to do a much better job combatting those people. They need to find a way to get the best and brightest teachers making the most money, and making most of the decisions, directing how the systems work. They need to deal with the union like this: Here's your basic deal. You as teachers, here's your salary structure. Also, there's a bonus awarded per school or per district based entirely on performance. And you the teachers will decide who gets that bonus. If your performance as a school sucks, you get no bonus.

You the teachers will police your ranks. If there is a dead weight teacher among you (and they know who they are), you can either cut them out of the bonus, or fucking fire their sorry non-performing ass so you can get somebody else in there who can pull their weight, so that your school's overall performance will rise and you will get that bonus again. Even the little-dick insecure backstabbing little shits that currently do eveyrthing they can to smear their failings into the broader system around them will be motivated to try to get that paycheck. Even they will have some motivation to bring in and keep teachers who understand the teaching methods that are already out there that fucking work.

I realize it's just a kernel of an idea, but I LIKE IT!

Not to be too old fashioned about it, I'd like a return to

"When a kid fails, he actually fails"

If the teachers need to return to reality, so do the students and parents. A teacher who gest paid for high test scores is just gonna pass everybody with high test scores. That's the problem with money... it doesn't motivate success, it motivates cheating which looks like success until it's caught.

"Your kid failed this grade because we gave her a test on the material covered and she didn't know any of the answers or how to find them. She thought Bin Laden was Joe Biden. So I failed her and gave her the F she earned. That's my job. Your child's low score means I did my job very, very well. She may actually have had a shitty teacher here and there, but she also had a year to find other means of undertsanding the material: asking me, asking friends, asking her parents, home study, the internet etc. She has failed every test this year, one a month, so should have known she didn't know the material. The material is right there in the book. By the way, I've taken the liberty of printing out your daughter's facebook page. Seems she spent 378 hours this year playing farmville this year".

My sister was held back in grade three. She then went on to drop out after grade 10. She is frustrated now that they let her go after the second year "I didn't learn anything the second time either, they should have kept me in grade three again and again and again until I understood what I needed to learn for grade 4."

And before we all call my sister an entitled communist blaming her failure on others... lets remember grade three means nine years old.

You seem to blame a lot of our problems on unions...
