Thread: Sex in Advertising: Subliminal Effects

Interesting video.

Our eyes are bombarded all the time with marketing campaigns using subliminal sexual imagery. Our consciousness and sub-consciousness are not only altered by things we knowingly put into our brain, but also things that we don't even consciously see.

While sex is used to create more revenue, is it also doing damage to our minds, our perceptions? Does it contribute to sexual disorder and sexual dysfunction? Really, our eyes are the windows to our brain.

Even weirder- If you watch "The Big Lebowski", there is a scene in which The Dude is writing a check at the grocery store for a carton of milk. The camera shows a close up of the check and the date on it is 9-11-91. Then the camera cuts to the TV at the check out counter with Bush Sr. saying "This aggression will not stand against Kuwait."

If you have the movie, check it out. I tried to find a Youtube of it, but no success.

Oh, and Lebowski was filmed in 1998...

I do not have the movie, but i take your word BG, you have shown nothing but honor and I certainly have no reason to doubt you. The media, knowingly or not, tell you of up coming events. Hell if you think 1984 was a work of fiction or imagination, I have a bridge that you can buy. Look at V for Vendetta, tell me that it is not that way in the UK today.

Subliminal advertising was tested unsuccessfully many decades ago. This doesn't mean that agencies don't continue to hide images in pictures... It's a great way to get people to spend more time looking at their advertisements (which get loaded into YouTube videos).

But advertisers aren't under any delusions that these hidden pictures have any direct effect on buying habits.
