I've never served in combat. Sleeping on watch is a pretty serious offense though... and if your watch is somewhere like Afghanistan, it's no joke that it can get people killed. So this guy repeatedly slept on watch, they made him do some push ups, kicked sand in his face, yelled at him, punched him in his body armor... They already had used their chain of command to try to handle this guy and the COC reduced the number of watches he stood, reportedly so that he could get some sleep, and yet he still slept on watch.

So, what would you have done?
'Accidently' shot himin the foot, and got a new watchpard.

Are you too stupid to understand that this was not hazing?

My daughter is in GL right now going through Basic. If you recall, the first couple weeks are absolutely he'll in terms of lack of sleep and stress induced by yelling. They do this in part, to identify those who aren't emotionally equipped to deal with stress. It's effective in that they do weed out quite a few. That said, nothing is perfect, and this young man did make it through. I'm with you, the suicide is indicative of larger issues that have little to do with his peers demanding that he not put their lives at risk.
