I Vets! I served from June 1977-May 1992, Obligations in The Army, Maryland Army National Guard, Army Reserve and later the IRR after my employer threatened me about my guard service -vs- my continued employment as one of his location managers at a retail building supply concern. We all know that they cannot get you through the "front door" but they can sure get you through the "back door". This was back in the days when we were still be spit at and given the bad finger for being in uniform.
I was blessed enough to become an officer after be an enlisted person, rose to the rank of Captain before having to resign. Was called back in in 1991 and served a tour in Kuwait/Iraq for (31) days. Not as an assigned soldier but as an attached soldier. Little did I relaize that not being assigned would have a negative benefit on my DDFor214....but you live and learn. ARPERCEN has helped me to correct some of the injustices done me but then without paperwork they are limited in what they can readjust.
To all our current military personnel, Thanks So Much for YOUR service whether in combat. combat support or combat service support, it all adds up to making the overall machine run smoothly and effectively. I was branch qualified in communications, military police, transportation, field medical specialist, physical security, so I cna never claim being a "Audie Murphy"! har! As a matter of fact my highest decoration was the ARCOM.........dime a dozen award.
To our wounded veterans and those who have gone to a much happier place, I thank you for your most honorable and heroic service and I sinecerly pray for those families and for you that gave the ultimate sacrifice. In a few years many will forget but just remeber, many more will always remember what you did and I hope to someday soon see a memorial to our Middle Eastern Warriors erected not to celebrated some claimed victory or to celebrate war, which I now consider one of the biggest failures of a civilized society and worl but to celebrate the bravery and dedication that our troops gave in the call of their nation.
Bless you all and hope to hear from vets from all services, years, periods and occupational specialties and paygrades!
