Just noticed the date on the opening thread RJ. Missed this the first time around. Didn't serve myself, have mixed emotions on that decision. Hope all goes well for your son.

Is he going to make it home for Christmas? (not sure how the military handles that.....?)

Just a further clarification of my beliefs...I don't think it's justifiable for us to send soldiers to make war on anyone who isn't actually attacking us with their military on our own turf.
It's part of my contempt for the (recent only) practice of thanking soldiers for "fighting for our freedom".
We haven't defended our fredom since the British burned Washington.

He comes home Dec 18 and will stay two weeks. Apparently he gets about 4 weeks and can split it up, or take it all at once.

    Thanks for your kind thoughts.

Telecaster congratulations and I am sure your son will do well. At age 33 and going to Basic Training, he must be in top shape. If his scres are high enough after he finishes AIT and get s fell for the Army he may want to try OCS. I went to For Gordon in 1977 for Basic and AIT which was communications. Later I went to OCS. It is tough academic's, psychologoical and from a tactical and strategic learning process but if he has leadership potential and his superiors think he would be a good fit, the world would be opened up to him again for some really challening education, assignments and great pay and benfits. I wish him all the best!
