Was watching Inglorious Basterds. Now I know historical authenticity is not a goal of the film. I do understand that.

Hitler speaking on his decision to attend the film premiere, because things aren't looking so hot for the Reich.

"The Americans have landed on the beaches"

On D-Day, the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy.

The American forces landed numbered 73,000:

    In the British sectors, 61,715

    The Canadians, 28,845

Canada and Great Briton combined have a quarter of the US population, and had been at war since 1938.

In the full Battle of Normandy 83,045 Brits and Canadians lost their lives.

It would be nice if the very least those men earned was the courtesy of admitting they existed. And that's not even mentioning the Poles, Czechs, Free French, etc who sacrificed the same as anyone else, even if there were fewer of them.

Just saying it would be nice.... and Speilberg/Hanks... I hope you're listening as well.

You want Speilberg/Hanks to do a movie about the Brits? I don't know man, I was sorta with you until that point. Then again, I don't even remember Hitler saying that in the movie, I guess at that point of the movie I was still thinking "You know, fightin' in a basement offers a lot of difficulties. Number one being, you're fightin' in a basement".

No - although now that you've distracted me I wouldn't say no to any Speilberg/Hanks WW2 epic. They could probably do a lot with Dunkirk or the Fall of Hong Kong for sad ones or a North Africa tank crew, or the merchant marine convoys running the Atlantic gauntlet ... that'd be cool.

I just look at the old ones like The Great Escape or Bridge on the River Kwai or The Devil's Brigade and I see international allies giving old Jerry and the Japs a what's what. There's at least a few Canadians in all those movies.

But in our own Hollywood generation the only purpose of any other allies is to dumbly wander into traps so the the Americans can shake their heads at how useless we are. The ridiculous tank commander in Saving Private Ryan (wanders into obvious trap despite warnings from our heros), or the Hurt Locker where a bunch of bomb disposal guys (??) have to pick up the heavy weapons to save the poor useless elite british Special Forces who just aren't up to the task.

The Enemny at the Gates is fantastic British war movie and there's not a single British character in it. It doesn't hurt to admit there wwas other stuff goign on.

Well you gotta remeber we've been playing catch up since Shaka Zulu. Michael Cain was smashingly brilliant, he plays a good, convincing brit, that's for sure.

Don't mind me. I'm just bitter because the only big-budget, Canadian made, Canadian based war epic ended up just being a plain old shitty movie.

It's typical Tarantino. If you check the music, it's really a Spaghetti Western with a WW2 overlay.

I agree... all of these people should be paid their due respect. I also am against things like jokes about the French people surrendering and stuff... which historically is unfounded. I can also say, being married to one... they are definitely all about fighting for what they believe in. lol
When it comes to GOP stupidity, there's no need to make stuff up.
