    It's Veteran's Day

Today is Veteran's Day, a day to honor all of our service men and women, living and dead. God bless them one and all.

If you're a vet how about telling us when, where and with what outfit(s) you served.

Beginning in July 1968 I served three tours, nearly 39 months, with Bravo and Delta Troops, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile).

Thanks to all of you who made the sacrifice and served and protected this great nation, and to those of you who supported us.

I'm not trying to be facetious here, but if Veteran's Date is "a day to honor all of our service men and women, living and dead," then how does it differ from Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is specifically dedicated to honoring all soldiers who have died, or been casualties, of war. I'm not sure if Veterans Day was originally intended to include vets who've died, but how can you exclude them while honoring living vets? That wouldn't seem right to anyone I'm sure.

Right Sparta. Earlier this afternoon, as I do each year, I took part in a memorial ceremony at the VA cemetery in Milwaukee. My dad is buried there. Present were vets from WWII through Iraqi Freedom. I wore my only remaining Vietnam jungle combat jacket, with my decorations, and my 7th Cavalry Stetson. There were two other Vietnam combat vets present, one who is disabled because of his wounds.

No one should ever take for granted the sacrifices made by our service men and women to keep this country free.

5th battalion 20th infantry regiment Camp Casey, South Korea
3rd battalion 47th infantry regiment Ft. Lewis, Washington
And I think it was the 66th Medical company in Ft. Gordon, Ga.

I was a tow gunner in the infantry and a behavioral science specialist. Served for just under five years, getting out in 1995.
