    Veteran's Day

This is what was reported by channel 10 (KTEN) in Denison, TX today.

It's really discouraging. I guess we might as well pull the plug on Veteran's Day as a holiday when the subject (himself a Veteran) didn't know any better than this and neither did the reporter, the editor or the news room boss.

"Veterans Day is always observed on November 11th, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls. Korean and Vietnam Veteran, Chester Ball, explains why. "It started in World War II when they had Armed Missiles Day when the war, World War II was over they signed a treaty on 11th month of the 11th day at 11:00."

    Veterans Day

Armed Missiles Day. Now I've heard it all.

Armed Missile Day at the end of WW2.

Wasn't WW2 the one where America defeated Napoleon?

    LOL

Not according to most high school students. They seem to think that's the war where we, the Germans and the Vietnamese fought the Russians.

If you click on that link now, you'll find it's been changed to reflect the correct information. I sent the station an e-mail suggesting their reporter check his facts and, apparently, someone there is listening.

Just guessing at this, but I'd blame the reporter for that. He/she probably heard the veteran talking about "Ar-Miss-Tiss" Day, and didn't recognize that he was referring to Armistice Day because of different pronunciations of the same word. Of course, he/she could have just been as stupid as it sounded. I just like to give the benefit of the doubt to people.

This is somewhat of a famous thread now. Well it should be anyway.
