prag's frozen turkey Quickie...!! [DING DING - Rev HH] IN the wind defrosts quicker

The outside temperature is 38 degrees on a cloudy day. Wind is blowing at 30 mph. Windchill is therefore around 25 degrees. You are thawing your fat frozen turkey and the only place to do it is outside. Will the turkey thaw faster if you place it in the wind or if you place it out of the wind?? Explanation required....(and to our resident smart asses......the correct answer does not involve Michael Moore)

ahhhhh .... I need my resident geek for a cheat here!

It feels like the right answer is out of the wind, but I bet it is IN the wind, and has something to do with surface exposure.

In the wind, "windchill" is only a "feeling".... The wind will egress the below freezing turkey faster than not in the wind.

My resident geek says you win !!!!! He says if the outside air is warmer than the frozen turkey, which it is, the wind will help thaw the turkey faster =).

We have a winner. Woot! Woot!

Windchill is (incorrectly) often perceived as an genuine lowering of the ambient temperature. Actually windchill is just the propensity/rate to dissipate heat. An important concept to human skin....but of less (or no) importance to most non-living inanimate objects.

(btw Jacks....the second half of your answer wasn't wrong, just wasn't complete.)
