Cyndi Lauper is proving girls do more than just “wanna have fun.” They also fight for causes close to their heart.
Lauper, according to DNAinfo, plans to open a homeless shelter in Harlem in New York City for lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual youth.

This is great news. So many of these young people have no place to go. This will be a salvation to some of these kids who may have been rejected at home because of their sexuality. Many times when kids come out one parent f both will reject them. At times it leads to depression and even in the end suicide. There is a lot of needless pain for young LGBT kids and teens because parents fail to see their children anymore and just see a gay and find many ways to judge this.

Cyndi has done a great thing opening doors for some youths that would otherwise slip through the cracks and could be lost.

She will have a very positive effect of these kids. They can catch a break. They can even find mentors that will help them get through the dark days that can lie ahead. It is tough when the kids find they are alone.

It would be an important step in bring these youths back to a normal life. It is horrible how many are displaced by parents/ The number of LGBT teens that are out on the streets is alarming. The numbers grow everyday. There just is no help for a lot of them. They are even turned away by some of the religious shelters. To many of these kids turn to prostitution and in the end suicide. This may be a way to say hey this needs to stop. It is a national crisis in the US. It is one of those unseen ones.

I listen to OutQ on Sirius because I love Frank DeCaro. He almost makes me pee my pants because he is so crude & funny. Anyhow, I remember around Christmas, the news carried stories of another shelter being forced out of it's place (The Ali Forney Center. Housing for Homeless LGBT Youth). As much as Cyndi should be commended for her support for LGBT people and it is long-standing, it seems redundant to create a new centre. I wonder if there is more to the story.

Really happy to see Cyndi take this on. I wish we had more role models trying to make a difference in people's lives!
