I always wondered why all the 'God Bless 'Merkkka' swag I always see here in the sticks.
Wouldn't a compassionate God be blessing all the the 3rd world countries we harm and extort?

I don't believe that God takes a day to day interest in what we do. That is where free will comes into play. We cause our own problems.

That being said, I wouldn't expect any favors from Him.

Presumably, that's a typo, and you meant to say "wouldn't."

By the same token, if he isn't going to be helping out, I see no need to constantly worship, praise, and thank him.

In regards to giving praise, it has been my observation that people seem to pray because it is a comfort to them more than to offer worship to a particular entity. I could be wrong, but it seems that the worse things are, the more people go to church.

If this theory holds, then church attendance should have risen considerably over the past four or five years. A minor uptick is to be expected as the baby-boomers reach their senior years, since seniors are historically more likely to attend church regularly than other age demographic. However, if church attendance figures have any correlation with "the worse things are," then a major rise would be expected - and I"m not sure we're seeing it.

Take a look around this Country.

Look across the county border into the City of Detroit (you don't even have to go into it), take a deep whiff.
Look at the economy.
Look at the fact that America is the birth country of scientology.
