    Who are your heroes?

In today's world, the word hero could mean an athlete that can throw, catch, run with or dribble a ball. It can mean a singer whose lyrics resonate with a fan. What is a hero? Webster's defines a hero as:

    Definition of HERO
1a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : an illustrious warrior c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d : one who shows great courage
2a : the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work b : the central figure in an event, period, or movement
    3plural usually he·ros : submarine 2
4: an object of extreme admiration and devotion : idol

When I was growing up, my heroes were astronauts and soldiers. Today, my heroes are still astronauts and soldiers but also include my parents, a war widow, my late best friend and my kids.
Who are your heroes or heroines, and why?

when I was younger my heros were musicians like the Beatles, but as I raised a family my priorities changed. Now my wife, Parents, kids and a few of my best friends are my heros. Long story short. Those close to me matter most. National figures are here today gone tommorrow.

I would agree firemen, Police, military all are heros in our world

When I was young my heroes were Military Men.....Great Leaders, like Cyrus the Great, Julius Ceasar, Charles Martel, Patton, Rommel, MacArthur, and a host of Oriental Warriors. Then Ipman who was the man who Created the Wing Chun federation in Hong Kong and had to fight the Japanese during the occupation of China.....then all those that I watched die around me in battle.....and committ acts of courage in the most direst of times. People who were not famous and everyday people that had given their life for their country and countrymen.....I can't give you all their names.....but you can look in Arlington Cemetary and on the Wall of Woe in Washington D.C......The Vietnam Memorial. All these men are my heroes and some I fought with in battle, many I didnt know. All I do know is they will live with me forever!!!!!

People who stand up for the right thing even at personal cost to themselves. While many people mean to do well, their actions don't go beyond voicing support on forums such as these or signing an electronic petition from the comfort of their own couch. Those who actually get out and try to do good such as attend a rally, a protest or volunteer their time to make a difference are heroes to me. Those who dedicate their lives to making a difference in this manner are even bigger heroes in my eyes. First Responders, medical personnel, teachers and those in the military all fall into this latter category.

People I look up to are my heroes.

I think of Carmen Basilio as one and Mickey Ward as another. In both of these men I find the elements of greatness. Born poor, worked hard and did well while doing it with integrity

What I appreciate in men and women are those who are willing to look facts in the face and make a reasonable decision as to what to do.

Their area of expertise was the prize ring. And they fought. Boy did they fight and they did so as men whose job was to fight and when they showed up that is what they did. Pure integrity of purpose I see in these men. A sterling work ethic.

When a man applies himself to the task that these men did there is honor and integrity at work. A hero is ultimately honorable.

There is a Robert Moses that is associated with the canal system of the St. Lawrence river that is why I asked.

I took my family there and there was graffiti on the walls that said Jesus saves, Moses Invests. This was in the 70's
