After insulting Muslims by declaring in 2006 that Muhammad had brought "things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," after reiterating (through the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith) in 2008 that the subject of the ordination of women is not even open for discussion and declaring that anyone involved with the ordination of women will be automatically excommunicated, after lifting in January of this year the excommunication of Holocaust-denier Richard Williamson, now Benedict XVI opens a visit to Africa by telling the people of a continent decimated by AIDS that the distribution of condoms "increases the problem" of the spread of AIDS.

I think unless the Vatican wants to start financing the AIDS medicine for Africa and the food aid and all the other, they should STFU.

I know people there aren't forced to be Catholics, but if you are born Catholic, do you really have a choice? By the time you are old enough to decide for yourself, you're already brainwashed.

No, what he is saying is correct
and I am not Catholic.
You are not going to halt the spread of aids by condoms alone. Why? Two out of every 100 condoms fail due to exposure of heat; non-water base lubricants can weaken some condoms, (depending on what type of condom and most teens even in the US don’t know these facts) the age of the condom, slip-offs, breakage due to finger nails ect. It gives people a false hope. It only takes one time for this to happen to get infected.

Well, you can use that scenario to say if you are going to have sex with an infected person when you otherwise wouldn't have, there is still risk. But you could also say, if you use a condom while have sex with someone you didn't think was infected and probably wouldn't used protection with, you are minimizing the risk.

He's a Catholic Pope?

Of course we shouldn't impeach the Pope (is such a thing possible?). If you're pissed off with the Pope for upholding Catholic doctrine - why the hell are you still a Catholic?? If you're not Catholic, then it's nothing to do with you. If he makes you that angry then just devote some time to denigrating his backward, medieval faith.

If so-called Christians can keep gays from marrying, then why can't Catholics keep us all from having sex? Seems legit.

What gets me is why people think it’s the Churches responsibility to supply people with condoms. If the US and other countries are really worried about these people why aren’t we getting donations sent to them? Instead they are asking the Church which clearly teaches against this to supply them. The cost is tremendous considering how many each man would need per year. You can criticize the Church all you want to but they are over their helping these people. What are you doing to help them? If you believe they need more condoms (which I am not against condoms but would hope the teen would wait) then get up a group and collect donations. Not only that people would need to teach them the correct way and let them know the risks but don’t ask the Church to be accountable every time a person gets aids and used a condom or go against their teachings.
