    LDS Controversy

Controversy over "Yes" Campaign on Proposition 8

Several parties have filed lawsuits over the Church of Latter Day Saint's involvement in the Proposition 8 "Yes" campaign. Evidence has surfaced that indicates Church funds were used in the campaign, which violates Federal Tax Exemption Code for churches. Should they succeed then the Church of LDS is in severe danger of losing its tax exempt status and being subject to income and property taxation by the Federal and State governments.

Other evidence has been produced that tells something even more chilling; the church of LDS has had a plan to introduce this sort of amendment since the late 60's. One document detailing conference minutes states that the LDS in California was planning to form an alliance with the Catholic Church in order to get this legislation passed.

Thank you, I was wondering when someone would bring up this.

Forget Mormons. They are members of the stupidest religion ever. Jesus walking around Missouri. Pffft! And I guess they think you go to another planet when you die. The next Mormon that comes up to my door...I'm turning my hose on them. You can't get arrested for that.

The Knights of Columbus were invloved too. I'll have to think of what kind of revenge I can get on this bastards without getting arrested.

    They'll never take me alive!!!

Don't you just love it when justice is dispensed through taxation? Think what we could do with all the money we get from these bigoted fucks.

That's interesting Aus. If indeed LDS did use church funds to further a political end then they should have their tax exempt status reviewed.

Indeed - it in fact constitutes a direct violation of the tax code in regards to churches. I think the reason they did it was to show off their supposed political muscle.

You two are kinda funny. What makes you think only the Mormons play with politics?

Pastors take politics to the pulpit -- baltimoresun.com

Now go and bash all of Christianity, not just one faction.

If you feel like bashing other religions for messing with Governments, don't forget the Buddhists and Muslims. They are far worse and far more involved than Christianity ever was.

I mean heck, as long as you got the angry finger waving, might as well spread the anti-love some, right?

If they violate the federal tax code then they lose their tax exempt status, that is plain and simple.

What has me concerned is that they weren't making a partisan political statement, they were using a tax exempt church to further bigotry towards a lifestyle.

I know it's not exactly on topic, but it is funny as heck, The Mormon Temple near Bethesda MD is just outside the Washington DC Beltway and it bares a resemblance to the Emerald City, anyway, as your'e approaching it on the outerloop of the beltway, you see it rising majesticly from the woods. You have to pass under an old B&O railroad bridge that has "Surrender Dorothy" spray painted on it for about the past 35 years. Look at the graffiti section on this wikipedia link for more info,
