I haven't seen services, but I see church groups do this all the time. Service is a bit much.
Christ didn't go out of His way to make things easier for people to follow Him.
Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
(Gospel According to Saint Matthew xvi. 24)
There's nothing wrong with people attending a social gathering, but don't try to pretend there's anything Christian about it.Even though they did come to Him also. Nothing un-Christian about it except the audience they are speaking to. Sounds lie a good way to break out of the fishbowl effect we have in churches today.Do the well need a doctor?
What "fishbowl" effect in churches are you talking about?![]()
18 As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.
21 Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, 22 and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Babs: Jesus sought out his disciples. And the verse you posted was incomplete, as you cut out the meaning of being a True Christian. Far and away my favorite portion of scripture..
24Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever wants to save his life[h] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will find it. 26What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
