So I was checking out this Christian message board because I was bored, and posted about my spiritual search. I mentioned how the notion of the innocent being sent to hell for not accepting Jesus (or simply for never even having heard of Jesus) as their savior was a huge turn-off for me. Here's a typical response:
I am sorry to hear this, Shadowman. You are not helping any of the lost souls by not accepting Jesus for yourself. You see, God hasn't changed. We all have a choice as to accepting Jesus as the way of salvation, or not. You have heard so much truth here, and because you feel that it isn't fair, you choose to reject Jesus. So you have made your choice. Not God, but you. Now, rather that choosing the only way of salvation and possibly leading others to that salvation, you have chosen the path of destruction. By doing so you now can't help anyone else to be saved.
Do you think that by choosing paganism over Christianity that you now have another choice as to where your eternity will be spent? You don't. You can choose Christ and spent eternity in Heaven, or you can choose any other path you want, and spent eternity in Hell.
Make no doubt about it, there are no innocent and good people. There are people who we think are nicer than others, but a human can never achieve the perfection that is required for Heaven. Even that sweet little baby who is so wonderful. A child is only innocent in the sense that he or she is not able to make a educated choice -- that's why there is an unspecified age when that child does understand and can make a choice. Until then, God's grace allows them to go to Heaven. Those little one's who have been murdered in abortion clinics are in Heaven. The Islamic child who is to immature to make a choice will go to Heaven. But if a person who is mature enough to make a choice chooses to reject Christ, then...well, it's their choice and God cannot be blamed.
There are no innocent and good people. God gave the Law - summed up in the Ten Commandments, but there are hundreds of Laws that must be followed without any deviation. There must be sacrifices -- many of them -- done to cover the slightest waiver from perfection. "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me" Do you put anything before God? Anything at all? TV...work...hiking...? If you choose to reject Jesus, you better give all of that up and only serve God. "Honor thy father and they mother". Do you ever get mad at your dad and mom? Ever? If Dad asks you to mow the lawn, do you jump right up and do it? Always? Even if you don't live with them? How about food. Do you ever have a cheeseburger? Oooops. Do you ever wear any clothing that are a blend of fibers? Ooooops. Do you ever go anywhere on Friday night? Oooops. There are hundreds of more rules just like these. This is why Jesus came and gave His life for us. Because we can't do it ourselves. By you rejecting Him, you are not going to make God say "Oh, gee, maybe I've been to harsh". Really, He has done everything He possibly could to make it easy for us. He entered His creation, gave His life as the once for all sacrifice. All you --- or anyone else -- has to do is either live totally under the Law, or accept Jesus.
Please, really think about your decision.
The dude thoroughly lost this potential convert!
