Pope says indians longed for their genocide-it was a christian act of purification

Adam Jones: When Does Genocide Purify?
the Pope declared that "the nations of Latin America and the Caribbean" were "silently longing" to receive Christ as their savior. He was "the unknown God whom their ancestors were seeking, without realizing it ..." Colonization by Spain and Portugal was not a conquest, but rather an "adoption" of the Indians through baptism, making their cultures "fruitful" and "purifying" them. Accordingly, "the proclamation of Jesus and of his Gospel did not at any point involve an alienation of the pre-Columbian cultures, nor was it the imposition of a foreign culture." So there we have it. The invasion and conquest of the Americas, which caused the deaths of upwards of 90 percent of the indigenous population, was something the Indians had been pining for all along. They weren't just "asking for it," as sexist cranks depict women as complicit in their own rapes. They were actually "longing" for it, since salvation and "purification" came with it.

Just how does this explain your crusade?

Your posts, which are hard to read and understand will change nothing.

Basing your posts on exaggerated revisionism doesn't make your case any stronger either.

So why do you, Jane, hate Christians? What has been done to you?

Or do you have no personal experience with Christians and you just choose to champion the cause of other people who do not share your animosity?

That is partially true, but I think that doesn't change the fact that MANY of them were killed for no real reason at all, apart from their ethninticity.

oh it sucked.....but there does seem to be a big debate as to how much Christianity influenced colonialism........some claim it inflamed it(manifest destiny), some say it tempered it(the Spanish/Jesuit missions), while some say it had little infleunce at all(Gold, Glory, Girls, and em oh yeah, God.....I guess).

It is pretty apparent what had happened and it still exists as a form of evangelism. At one hand, we claim to understand the need to learn and study the past, on the other we have always uprooted pagan cultures.

I think the likes of the Templars are a blot to this entire concept. The Portuguese did the same thing in India, Goa - where with colonial rule, they brought Catholicism and prejudices. At least the Brits had the concepts of indigenous cultures and respected some of it by classifying them (perhaps they were simply there to milk the cow and not bother the sherpherds).
