the soldier who listens to his conscious...
well..... it all depends on what he was doing.
-If his orders were to fight children. I would say he is a hero to not do so.
-If his orders were to fight some one who wants to kill children. I couldn't call him a hero for not fighting them
-If his orders were to fight david hasselhoff in a celeb boxing match. I could care less what he did

This isn't Viet Nam, our boys...including my Son, have volunteered. Most believe in the mission and follow orders.
And yes....they are Heroes!
I don't think following orders can make you a hero. You're just following orders. A militarty hero would have to decide to do something himself.
So volunteering could make you a hero, if that's how you feel and I know Conservative does, because you choose to do it yourslef... but fighting someone under orders can't.
The chain of command is there to protect lives....when soldiers free-lance they endanger those around them.
