Thread: Ethics; euthanasia.

Euthanasia. What do you think? Should it be legal / illegal and why?

(i am planning on opening up a couple of new threads on ethical and moral issues. i would like to know whether these kinds of issues intrest you enough to bother anwering them, or whether they have been covered so many times that they are now boring?)

I think it should be legal. Choosing to die with a terminal disease is rational and for the greater good. It all comes down to freedom of choice. The choice to die physically effects no one but the choice maker. No one should be able to tell us what we can and cannot do with our life, even taking it. However, I do not think Life Insurance companies should necessarily be forced to cover enthanasia. They'll have to add a rider to the policy I'd imagine.

Depends entirely on the contract.

If the contract covers "death" of any type, and never specifies that euthanasia "doesn't count!", they should be forced to cover it.

The only problem I have with euthanasia is that it could get messy. Say for instance, a doctor euthanizes someone, but their family says he didn't want to die. The doctor murdered him.

I do not agree with Euthanasia...there is too much possibility of corruption and murder.

The same can be said about any system. Just have witnesses to the signing of the contract if you're that paranoid.

EDIT: Hell, have a judge sign it too.

That is not the only reason for my aversion to the practice. But since you think that it can be done with no corruption...maybe we should discuss the topic with people who spent years in prison and were set free by DNA proof...the system failed them.

That hardly relates.

It would be hard to trick people if there are witnesses and judges involved.

Looks to me like you're just using this as an excuse when you have other motives for wanting it outlawed.

Ok, lets say you have some greedy kids who want Dad to leave this earth so they can get their inheritance. They find a judge who will sign off for a cut...bingo....Dad has just been Euthanized against his will.

I was trying to keep religion out of this....but if you want to call me on it I will give reasons for that as well...I am not afarid to share them.

I don't really trust the court system. People could be murdered through euthanasia. Why can't they just kill themselves?
