Has "My space" dominated the globe quicker then democracy?

No. Myspace is a website and democracy isn't.

More people live in a democracy than use MySpace. Even when you include the likes of Bebo more people still live in democratic countries. 2 billion people have never made a phone call while only 1.8 billion people do not live in a democratic country.

All we see nowadays are desperados looking to mate or commit their lives to sorry innuendos of the sub cultures present in our social circle. My Space and other such social get-togethers offer more opportunities to commit and communicate without the 'fear' that comes when talking to strangers. Whilst it is simply a fear of rejection and uncertainty, the reason why such sites do well is because socialization has just gotten easier...

Simple. Nothing political, really. The last time I checked, I wouldn't vote for someone whom I met and heard on the internet...

Nah, it's nothing more than a website, and not to burst the bubble, but not everybody is as into it, as you might think. :whistling:

Re: Has "My space" dominated the globe quicker then democracy?

Myspace.com may only be a website, but like the whole internet it is a reflection of the public world outside of reality, Myspace is a reflection of democracy which exists outside of reality. How about some comparisons between real life and the internet?

-The internet includes many areas (websites) which one can indulge themselves in. Many of these sites are made up of petty entertainment with little value or intelligence. Some good examples of these are Youtube.com and YTMND, which are basically places to watch movies as you could in real life except with even less activity and socializing required.

-Another obvious example is in pornography. This indulgance can take the place of the cheap and lifeless sex that people that don't face reality sadly miss out on (although it is less satisfying in everyway, it also interestingly enough it cuts past the bullshit included with real life sex and is a way more intelligent).

Now to the point... Myspace is a reflection of aspects of democracy. The most obvious show of this would be in MASSIVE glorification of the individual. Each member of Myspace fills their profile to the brim with meaningless (and often false) babble about themselves. This of course makes it popular and accessible (and often false), just as with democracy. Therefore the expansion speed of Myspace only rivals democracy because of its non-reality. Why does this fact make Myspace easier to accept (when its not being rammed down your throat by another country)? Well because democracy and Myspace are both wrong, and unreal things are easier to accept (just look at the sex-porn comparison).

    Sincerely,
    Krieger
