It is better to readily admit what our politicians are, and to use the system we have inherited which was designed around the knowledge that all people are essentially "murdering, money-grabbing, hypocrytical politicians who preach about freedom and equality whilst they finance terrorism and harbor war criminals." It is precisely that understanding of humanity that caused the people who designed this government to build in checks and balances and term limits, among other safeguards. The president being the commander-in-chief, in my opinion, was designed to be a check on the military, to lessen the likelihood that the military could take power by putting an elected official between us and the military. The fact that only Congress can declare war clarifies this point, again in my humble opinion. Our current situation is a perversion of that intended check. It has become an anti-check, as now one man can literally embroil us in a conflict that will last decades, or even longer. Completely against the spirit of checks and balances-- implemented against the known quantity of man's nature --that is supposed to protect us.

Wow, check it out. An answer and an off-track rant, all at once. I like Fridays.
