First day on PoliticalHotwire...

I have been a member of a couple other boards, so I'm not new to the concept here. However, the first one was completely uncivil and the one I'm currently on is moving in the same direction. While I'm a non-GOP conservative (a little further right than the average Republican), I don't agree that the best way to debate politics has to devolve into attacking one another at a personal level...statistics, numbers, and history are just that and in my opinion cannot always be used to gauge present and future actions...statistics and numbers often fail to consider outside variables that influence current situations and history is typically written by the winner. I am not trying to say they can never be accurate or useful in decision making...what I am saying is repeating them due to their past outcomes doesn't mean it will work in another situation.

But, I digress...I'm hoping to find a new home, new friends, and some thought provoking conversation. Thanks for allowing me into your group.

So, um, are you saying that citing numbers, statistics, and history are personal attacks, or that reality has a liberal bias, or what?

Absolutely not...what I am saying is in many aspects "that was then, this is now"...and, that statistics and numbers don't include current variables that effect the outcome of certain things now.

And, as far as history is concerned...all of my history professors through my years in college would start their first day of class by reminding the class that "History is written by the winner, therefore, it is filled with the bias of the writer"...I still however remain a huge fan and studier of historical events.

IMO...accusations of racism is the final stab when the other person has run out of valid material to argue. When someone resorts to personal attacks, it means they're beat intellectually.

It can mean that. It can also mean someone has encountered actual racism. Usually not that tough of a call though.

Come on dude. We all know the hidden truth behind the number 58, which should not take 48 hours to parse!

Numerology tells us that a 5 immediately followed by an 8 equals I hate Obama because he's black. It's unambiguous!
