    Martina McBride

    Concrete Angel

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
    Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

    Repeat Chorus

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

    Repeat Chorus

    Re: Lyrics: Post them here...

This is THE definitive Dylan as far as I'm concerned. Maybe the best war protest/realistic political song ever written. He really understood our world back forty years ago and it holds up as well today.
It's called MASTERS OF WAR. Reminds me of Cheney and Company. Wolfowitz etc. Military Industrial Complex beware, Dylan's got your number even today. Too bad today's youth doesn't listen to Dylan as much as my generation did.

    Come you masters of war
You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
    You that hide behind walls
    You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks

    You that never done nothin'
    But build to destroy
    You play with my world
    Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
    When the fast bullets fly

    Like Judas of old
    You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
    You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
    That runs down my drain

    You fasten the triggers
    For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
    You hide in your mansion
    As young people's blood
    Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud

    You've thrown the worst fear
    That can ever be hurled
    Fear to bring children
    Into the world
    For threatening my baby
    Unborn and unnamed
    You ain't worth the blood
    That runs in your veins

    How much do I know
    To talk out of turn
You might say that I'm young
    You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
    Though I'm younger than you
    Even Jesus would never
    Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question
    Is your money that good
    Will it buy you forgiveness
Do you think that it could
    I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
    All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die
    And your death'll come soon
    I will follow your casket
    In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
    Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand o'er your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead

I'll piss on Cheney and Bush's graves personally.

    We Live On Borrowed Time

BUT...as sung by Jason Alexander, NOT Barry Manilow

I never thought there could be a love like yours and mine
I never dreamed that I would see the day that I would find
A love that feels so right, but here we are tonight
And now the only thing we really need is time

    We live on borrowed time
No one can be sure when the loan will finally come due
But I'm loving all of mine, I know what time is for,
I've borrowed it so I can spend it all right here with you

There was a time when I believed that life held guarantees
There was a time when I was sure my future was secure,
But life had other plans, the future's in God's hands
And knowing that just makes me love you even more

    We live on borrowed time
Yesterday is past, tomorrow seems a million miles away
But I promise you that I'm gonna make love last
By living every moment, every hour, every day

Now we may have a year, or we may have a lifetime,
No one can be certain what the future will allow,
But you and I are here, and this time is the right time
'Cause one thing that I know is that we have each other now, and now,

And we live on borrowed time
Let's celebrate and sing as we walk bravely into the unknown
'Cause we're gonna be just fine, whatever life may bring,
We'll face it all together and we'll never be alone
We'll face it all together and we'll never be alone

    Forever Young

    Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
    And climb on every rung,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you.
    May you always be courageous,
    Stand upright and be strong,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
    May you stay forever young,
    Forever young, forever young,
    May you stay forever young.

    STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND

    (Leon Russell)

How many days has it been since I was born
How many days until I die
Do I know any ways that I can make you laugh
Or do I only know how to make you cry

When the baby looks around him
It's such a sight to see
    He shares a simple secret
    With the wise men

    He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land
    (Tell me why)
    He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

How many miles will it take to see the sun
And how many years until it's done
Kiss my confusion away in the night
Lay by side when the morning comes

And the baby looks around him
And shares his bed of hay
With the burrow in the palace of the king

    He's a stranger in a strange land
    (Tell me why)
    He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

Well, I don't exactly know what's going on in the world today
Don't know what there is to say
About the way the people are treating
    Each other, not like brothers

Leaders take us far away from ecology
    With mythology and astrology
He’s got some words to say
About the way we live today
Why can't we learn to love each other

It's time to turn a new face
To the whole world wide human race
    Stop the money chase
    Lay back, relax
Get back on the human track
    Stop racing toward oblivion
Oh, such a sad, sad state we're in
    And that's a thing

Do you recognize the bells of truth when you hear them ring
Won't you stop and listen to the children sing
Won't you come on and sing it children

    He's a stranger in a strange land
Just a stranger in a strange land

I heard this one just a few ago...had almost forgotten about it...We picked it apart in psychology once.

    "AT SEVENTEEN"

    By Janis Ian
I learned the truth at seventeen
That love was meant for beauty queens
And high school girls with clear skinned smiles
Who married young and then retired
    The valentines I never knew
The Friday night charades of youth
Were spent on one more beautiful
At seventeen I learned the truth...

And those of us with ravaged faces
    Lacking in the social graces
    Desperately remained at home
    Inventing lovers on the phone
Who called to say "come dance with me"
    And murmured vague obscenities
It isn't all it seems at seventeen...

A brown eyed girl in hand me downs
Whose name I never could pronounce
Said: "Pity please the ones who serve
They only get what they deserve"
    The rich relationed hometown queen
    Marries into what she needs
    With a guarantee of company
    And haven for the elderly...

So remember those who win the game
Lose the love they sought to gain
In debitures of quality and dubious integrity
Their small-town eyes will gape at you
In dull surprise when payment due
    Exceeds accounts received at seventeen...

To those of us who knew the pain
    Of valentines that never came
And those whose names were never called
    When choosing sides for basketball
It was long ago and far away
the world was younger than today
when dreams were all they gave for free
to ugly duckling girls like me...
We all play the game, and when we dare
    We cheat ourselves at solitaire
    Inventing lovers on the phone
    Repenting other lives unknown
That call and say: "Come on, dance with me"
    And murmur vague obscenities
At ugly girls like me, at seventeen...
