Thread: Use of the Ratings System

It has come to our attention that some members are abusing the rating system. People are using the inabillity of the person being rated to see who they are to cuss out and personally attack the user. Please read the rules.

The board administration is able to see who posted each rating. From this day forward, anyone breaking the board rules in the rating system may receive infractions and moderator actions in the same manner as when posting in the forums.

The ratings were meant as a way to approve or dissaprove of a member post, and possibly give some feedback while doing so. They were not made for attacking and calling members derogitory names, cussing people out, or sarcastically insulting people. This practice will stop now.

If you dissaprove of a post, give a negative rating, and if you wish, explain in respectful terms what it is you do not like or leave the explination space blank. If you approve of a post, do the same for what you do like.

As a reminder, a warning has no infraction. One infraction puts the member on a ten day probation period. Two infractions restricts the member from the site for ten days. More infractions after a return may mean removal from the site.

If you receive an abusive rep statement, PM me with the quote and we will look into it.

Please respect this board and its members by not abusing the system. Thanks.

In the last week, several members have been complaining regarding a mystery period (.) repper who just leaves a period on a neg rep without giving a real reason.

I myself got one of these on a post where I said LA was smoggy.

Personally, I do not put enough thought into my reps to worry about it, and the repper did not lower the score by much. But it seems some members take this system very seriously, and have angry reactions to the period reps.

Most think it is an individual person going around doing this to piss people off. I myself thought this may be the case, but it seems not to be.

When a person does not approve of a post, they have the abillity to say so without fear of retribution. This system is helpful as long as they abide by the rules of the board, including not using personal insults in your reason.

Some people don't seem to feel like sharing that reason though, which defeats the purpose. If they don't know why their post was dissaproved of by someone, they can not very well improve in the future.

However. the period repping is NOT being done by one or two members, and is not done regularly by any one or two members. It appears to be random individual reps by several different members, and that is why so many different members on all sides of all isles have been getting one.

To keep things reasonably peaceful from this point on, in accordance with rule 4 of this board, the moderators would appreciate it if when leaving reps, you give an honest reason, even if you choose not to identify yourself.

If any members receive period (.) reps from this day on, please notify a moderator, do not go after the member on the board via angry posts, and we will see what can be done.

How do you continue to miss the point? You seem like an intelligent guy, really, you do. This whole system is put together in such a way as to attract the very sort of people that I wish would take a goddamn hike. Sure, if I have some beef with some shit that a person says to me I can whine, but as a rule I'm not built that way. It's not how I roll. Not only that, I think you would have to be a pussy to roll that way. I think you would have to be a pussy to think that others may need to roll that way. I think that a lot of the people bitching about the '.' repper are just sick and tired of you and this board supporting the actions and feelings of those who have a weak character. Fuck them, the majority of people don't want that sort here, it's that sort that draggs this board down.

I'm trying to tell you what's going on here and you don't want to listen, last time I said something you retorted and locked the tread to make sure you had the last word in a thread that was sticking with the topic by addressing why members weren't active.
I think less and less about getting perspective from PH, I am more displeased everyday that the big deal around here is how this board is run as opposed to how this country is run. I'm thinking one day soon I'll decide I can live without that.

Also, not to be a pussy, but it does turn me off to actually letting loose and saying what I truly want on some topics. No, there is no secret side of Jbird, I just feel like I'm walking on egg shells. I really don't care what some strangers have to say about me via a rep system since they don't know me but sometimes, you can't help but be offended just by the words that go into some of the negative reps. I know I can choose to not look at them but that's nearly impossible; I have absolutely no self-control. But I'm also not going to whine to mods or make posts about them either because I just don't see where that will get me. To tell you the truth, I see absolutely no good reason behind the "ratings system" on a political forum. If I want to say that someone made a good post then I can always just send them a friendly PM. If I want to disagree with someone's post then I need to put it where it belongs; in the debate. If I want to talk shit to/about someone, I'll go to Rant & Rave. All this anonymous bullshit is getting on my nerves. I remember when I first found at that you get rep and went to look to find that someone thought that a dog should bite off my boobs or something grotesque along those lines (that ones actually pretty funny....LOL). I haven't gotten any like that in a long time but I know some people have gotten some pretty nasty things and there's just no point to it. At least, if some angry person wants to get nasty in a PM, you have the chance to rip them one right back but this anonymous stuff is just pointless. Sorry for the rambling but that's my 2 cents on it all.
