A New Puppy and a 3 Year old Male Cat.

I'm getting another dog(female 6-7 week old part black lab/terrier/retriever/mix puppy), maybe. i've had dogs and a cat at the same time before, but it's been awhile. bad relationship between the 2. in this case, the dogs were here before the cat and dogs were huskies. didn't get along!! outside dogs, in/outdoor cat

I've had the cat every since he was about 6 weeks old and for almost 3 years. in/outdoor cat.

The cat loves me to death. lol

The pups' mother had 7 pups, 3 males and 4 females and she seems to have a good disposition. the owner feels the fathers are a black lab and a golden retriever. very cute puppies. sorry no pics.

advice please. should i get the puppy?

ps, i do have a large yard for the dog.

Absolutely. We had two dogs and two cats at the same time. No problems at all. One of the dogs and one of the cats was always together, we called them 'the pals.' The curled up to nap together.

Then the older dog died. The very same week, a cat got hit by a car outside, and we rescued it. The day we picked him up from the shelter after surgeries, there was an orange tabby in the cage next to him that insisted on coming home too. So now we have four cats and one dog. The dog gets along with all the cats. Two of the cats hate each other tho.

I have a beagle raised with two cats. They got along fine. Even if they get along fine, sometimes animals don't recognize their own strength and end up hurting another. Since the size disparity between a beagle and a cat wasn't large, it wasn't much of a problem for me. Of course, it helps to have the critters neutered.

Absolutely. The reason why the huskies didn't get along with the cats is because well.....they were huskies. Huskies have a very strong prey drive, they are still pretty close to the wolf, and smaller animals like cats, rabbits, ferrets etc. are likely going to be traumatized by a husky. If you get the husky young enough you can train away some of that, but it will always be there.

Labs are great with other animals. You mentioned she may have terrier in her, but I'm not too worried about that. She may require a bit of extra training, but I think all will be fine. If you run into any issues, I'm more than happy to advise.
