I personally love science fiction and find it a great way to get away from it all. I own way too many DVDs and enjoy the escape, the concepts, the mind stretching play and the simple imaginative idea of getting off this rock and going somewhere else.

True geeks get way too far into this world. And while I'm not too sure we have enough for a good discussion, one post is worth the investment

I like Voyager a lot. It has a start, a middle and an end, and I'm not describing Jerri Ryan's anatomy. Kate Mulgrew is really terrific and some of the minor characters are pretty good, such as the Doctor and Torres, the half Klingon. Most geeks hate Voyager because they live in their family's basements and desperately want to escape from their mother's control. This doesn't go well with a female captain.

Gotta be Star Trek. It's almost it's own genre within Sci Fi.
When it comes to GOP stupidity, there's no need to make stuff up.

The weakness of Trek is that it tends to be less arc driven and has many more stand-alone episodes. This tends to make it less appealing to newer viewers. DS9 and Voyager are much more arc driven that TOS or TNG. Seasons 6 and 7 of DS9 have some really terrific stories.

Another Star Trek vote. The standard bearer. I'd even say Star Trek if you said best franchise period, including movies (meaning Star Wars).

I think the first three Star Wars are the best science fiction ever made. I wont hear a word against it. But when you add in the recent 3 and the expanded universe they are weighed down - and Star Trek is consistant decade after decade... everything's good. I don't know a thing about Enterprise. It happened while I was overseas - came and went before I even saw an episode. And I've never seen the repeats anywhere either.

All I really knowis that 'Scott Bacula' is the best vampire name I've ever heard.

HEY - speaking of Scott Bacula - Quantum Leap would be a good 'other' for this question.

    (What the heck is Farscape?)

Star Wars is fantasy, not science fiction. "The Force" is not a scientific concept.

Farscape is very popular among geeks. It basically used Muppets for characters. It's one I haven't seen yet, myself.

    Farscape

The two main characters from the show (Browder and Black) ended up on SG-1 in season 9.

It was a good ride, and I'm not describing Jerri Ryan's anatomy, but short lived.

It was seven seasons. Only Deep Space 9 had the same number and only Stargate Sg-1 had more (10), but the last 2 were pretty bad.
