I had to vote Star Trek because of all the history, cultural influence, and good episodes but I

really enjoyed the Stargate series up to about "Atlantis".

I also liked Firefly, but it was so short lived it's not going to compete with others.

Just don't ask Six... just don't ask.

It makes me wonder what circles of Hell the directors of the original three had to go through to get the finished product they got.

"Hi george, I have a quick script change I'd like to run by you".

    "Sure, which lines"

"No George, the script. We're going to be changing your script, for a new script. We're keeping your plot line, but every single line spoken during the entire movie is going to be re-written"

"Gosh... why... oh I'm so sleepy... is there something in this chamomile tea...... (plunk)

"Ok boys, he's out. Roll cameras, with real film this time... he's sleeping"

I wonder if you could catch "THE FORCE" from a dirty toilet seat in a public restroom or a defective condom ? I mean that's basically what Lucas did, relegated it to a virus.

    Clearly Anikan prefered bareback.

I liked it better when the Force was simply a convenient way to choke someone across the room without having to get up.

A word of praise for Trek the original series.

One of the key things about a ship-bound Sci-fi show is the interactions among the crew. It should feel like these are people doing a job that is normal, for them. There should be ego battles, flirtations, bad moods, boredom, not the sense that everyone is a hero with a constant, good attitude.

I think especially during the first season, Trek: TOS did this as well as any of the series.

    And Space 1999

    And Space Above and Beyond

    And Rocket Ranger

    And Outer Limits

    And Heroes

    And V

    And Lost

Actually, I based the list one of the polls over at gateworld.net, edited of course.

Twilight Zone is a great series of standalone stories with no ongoing characters. Most of the geeks don't consider it modern sci-fi, but what do they know? I think Buffy won the poll and Firefly was second. But the former is not sci fi and the latter is too short.
