Flying bear kills two Canadians in freak accident

Two Canadians died instantly in a freak accident when a car hit a 440-pound (200-kg) black bear and sent the animal flying straight through the windshield of an oncoming vehicle, local media said Wednesday.
The bear's body hit the 25-year-old driver and a 40-year-old man sitting behind her and then shot out of the back window. The bear also died.
The accident happened Monday night in a rural area about 25 miles north of the federal capital Ottawa.
"We don't see (this) often, even if we live in the country. Lots of deer, but collisions with a bear and two people died? That's really rare," local police spokesman Martin Fournel told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
Collisions between vehicles and animals are common in Canada, which has a healthy population of large wild animals such as moose and deer.

Wow ... weird !

I mean, very sad .... but I can't help picturing in my mind the bear shooting out the back window. It's nutz !

A Chelan County fire chief says a couple were lucky they weren't killed by a cow that fell off a cliff and smashed their minivan.

District 5 Chief Arnold Baker says they missed being killed by a matter of inches Sunday as they drove on Highway 150 near Manson.

The 600-pound cow fell about 200 feet and landed on the hood of the minivan carrying Charles Everson Jr. and his wife Linda of Westland, Mich., who were in the area celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary. They were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

The van was heavily damaged, including a broken windshield.

Charles Everson says he kept repeating, "I don't believe this. I don't believe this."

An event that would lead to the placing of one of the greatest road signs ever...

Then a local winery started holding the Falling Cow Wine Festival yearly on the same weekend and even put out a Falling Cow Wine

That's making lemonade out of lemons! Around here there is a section of town that holds a BBQ festival each year. Two years ago attendance was waaaaaaay down. I know the guy who chairs the festival and he was talking about the problems. I asked if he had considered that the name of the event may be a problem. Swinefest. This was when H1N1 was hitting the area.
