Is Breaking the Law ever Justified?

Is Breaking the Law ever Justified?

I have noticed that many of those who support abortion like to throw out the "It's the law" comment..."and if you don't like it change it".

Now we have a nominee for the supreme court who is a commited Roman Catholic. Her record is ambiguous concerning abortion. If she makes the court, and if a case challenging the validity of Roe v Wade and infact overturns Roe. We could see a number of states outlaw or severely restrict abortion.

My question is for those who live by the law now when it's legal...will you accept the law when it is illegal?

Aside from taxes, I don't follow any laws because they're laws, I basically do what I want and trust my moral compass to keep me out of a long prison term.

With menopause behind me, I don't really give a shit. I just don't want to have to feed, cloth educate and provide medical care for the million or so a year extra unwanted, fucked up, deformed, hate filled, inbred, deprived, starving children that are going to be all over the place, but I'll leave that problem for the next generation to solve.

Maybe all you pro-lifers can provide for them.

I would prefer that the conversation revolve around following the law of the land. I contend that all people choose what laws they want to obey, and make decisions daily that break laws. So, are we to obey laws? Are we a land of "rule of law" or not? When ones moral compass puts someone in opposition to the law are we to criticize? Or applaud that person?

I've never felt that way. If they are stupid laws, people shouldn't have to obey them. I don't include killing abortion doctors in that, because I don't think laws against murder are stupid.

Agreed, but not all breaking of laws coincide with morals as well as killing abortion doctors. Slavery, in hind site was a moral abomination, and yet only a minority of people were willing to break the law to protect slaves in those days.
