You mean the universe on the plane is where it worked but the island in the present, with jacob dead and julia and syhid dying, is how they will get to the plane?

Yeah, you're right, that doesn't make sense. As the show goes on, I'm beginning to think the present plane timeline is just a whatif to point to the characters in the actual timeline.
