I went to Ashford Castle on my honeymoon. I was actually in a small convenience store on the outskirts of town when I saw the second plane go into the World Trade Center.
It might be the nicest place on earth. It's not for sale as far as I knowThey filmed a few scenes from "The Quiet Man" there.
And JOMV you don't really have to be rich. We did it up right at Ashford to be sure but Dromoland and Ashford, while highly rated can be had on the cheap and are a cheap ride from Shannon airport. Flights to Shannon are ridiculously low in price now. I used to go every few years after I graduated.

I would, but I just got back from a month long vacation in Europe, coincidentally we did spend a few nights in a couple of nice castles in Austria and Italy. Expensive though, which is why we only stayed a fews nights. The rest of the time we had to stay in hotels, what a drag.

I hear you. We stayed in B&Bs in our non-castle nights. It would have been more productive staying at my parent's house for our honeymoon. B&Bs are nice and all, but it's someone's house. It's just a weird concept for a closed-minded American like me.
