    Ask a Hillbilly

    Ok,

Seems alot of yall are a bit mis-informed on Hillbilly culture. This thread is for any questions that have been on your mind regarding Appalachian-Americans.

Please, lets keep this organized, I know the aura of my amazingness may be quite tempting, but alas, as amazing as my field dressing abilities may be, keep it down to a maximum of 3 questions per person. If you expect an answer, do not post again untill I got to your original questions.

(Ofcourse this is a light-hearted thread, but feel free to ask real questions. Need to know how to run a trot line? Want to know what 'jugging' means? Interested in making your own hard cider or applejack? Got a pest problem? Want the greatest BBQ run recipes under the sun? This is your chance.)

1- Texas BBQ is not bad....but there's only so many ways to mesquite smoke a brisket
2- Applejack is the end product of making Hard Cider, its really nothing more than Appleshine.
3- In many facets of life, speed is not everything
4- Juggin is for Bass anglers like me who want some Cats to take home at the end of the day without wasting the time to catch them

Those were not questions, but you now have my rebuttals.

    Re: Ask a Hillbilly

1- Today's Hillbilly is actually quite fiscally savy. We are just as informed on investing as the rest of the country, but we do tend to be a little more conservative with it. Personally, I participate in the government's TSP program and my Wife has a Roth.

Yesterday's hillbilly was just as likely to bury 'excess' money in mason jars in the back yard. My Great Aunt did this, there is rumored to be in excess of $200 somewhere under her trailor.

    2. West Virginians are Hillbilly like the rest of us, but they are not southerners. They are traitors.

    3. Because the word Hillbilly implies that you are from the hills. As much as I respect the opinion of our dear Texan deer skinner above, she is not a hillbilly, she is a Texan. Now, there are mountians in Oregon, Wyoming and Washington, and hence there are Hillbillys in those states. They tend to prefer to be called 'Mountain Men' on the whole and therefore often get excluded in Hillbilly discussions.

Not much, and even that is opinion. Typically redneck implies low class, but much like the term 'neocon' its definition is completely up to the user.

The only real difference is that a true hillbilly comes from the mountains/foothills.
