    Spring!

Maybe Elvis Presley has rubbed off on me a little, but.....aahh!

Here in Ohio it is beautiful outside right now. Everything's in bloom. We have Bradford pear trees, weeping cherry trees, red bud trees, dogwood, phlox, daffodils, tulips, rhododendrons.

The magnolia and forsythia blooms are about gone, but the lilacs are just starting to come out and they smell amazing!

I am grateful I do not suffer from allergies.

I said the exact same thing to someone earlier today as we were driving past some gorgeous blooming trees.

Speaking of lilacs. I'm not sure how important they were around here prior to May 1945, but ever since then, they've been associated with the end of WW2 (in Europe that is, obviously). Soviet troops were (literally) welcome with lilacs in Prague (very much unlike the next time they came, in 1968). In fact, I remember hearing an expert say that ever since 1945, lilacs in Prague have bloomed during the first week of May. Last year, when I was ill and had nothing better to do, I watched them, and I couldn't help noticing that lilacs in my street started to bloom on April 20, which is Hitler's birthday. I figured the lilacs had switched sides all of the sudden or something. So I watch them realllllllly close this year, but they aren't quite blooming as of now. Whew.

    I love the scent too.

In the pacific northwest, especially in Seattle, this time of year you get all the Rhododendrons, dafodils, lilacs, and such. Nothing quite as dense as this photo. My neighbor had this lilac bush that pretty much grew in a hole way out on their property, but it had half dark purple blooms and half regular lilac color. Don't tell the guys I would ever be into flowers, but the two colors and the smell made a great center of table display on top of this longish candle holder when we had friends over.

Damn, sorry to hear bout that.

Just to rub some salt into those wounds ....Blueneck, as a fellow lilac enthusiast, I'm sure you'd enjoy Pur Désir de Lilas, the amazing fragrance by Yves Rocher.

If you don't know it yet, I highly recommend it. It's the closest thing to real lilac scent I know.... totally agree with this review.

    Re: Spring!

Here in NE Wisconsin spring is just starting to take hold. The lawn is greening up and there is warmth to the sun. The fields are beginning to dry enough to allow the farmers to begin working in them. The melt from heavy winter snows and early spring rains flooded them.

I'm glad that winter's gone. This last one was tough.

These two have been cooped up all winter and can't wait to get into the field (the photos from last summer).

I love lilac of any kind (there are some white lilacs near my place too), and all the other flowers you mentioned. Rhododendrons don't grow out in the wild here ( ) but I know some people who have a MAGICAL garden full of 'em.

    Thanks.

Mattie (l) and Mindy (r) are sisters from the same litter of English Springer Spaniels. They'll be 2 years old June 13th.

Mattie is gun trained. Mindy just doesn't have it in her to retrieve.

I just bought 6 inch potted tomatoes, I have to keep them under plastic. The green house is filling up and I am patiently waiting to plant some stuff. My wisteria, Rhodie's, and lilac are getting a good start. Maybe there is hope. Last year was the coolest summer this state has seen for a looooong time.
