    Female Reporters on the News

So I am killing some time watching CNN, and being a bit bored, I let my mind wander off the actual topic, and start thinking; these female reporters all look awfully similar, don't they?

I mean, when you look at women elsewhere, like in a club; they put so much effort into having something special about them, the hair a bit different, lipstick color etc, hours in the bathroom, while the guys have messed their hair up a bit with some gel. But once they are in front of the camera, they all have the same short/neck-long hairdo, wear a blouse, a necklace of some sort and pretty much the same colored lipstick.

WTF is up with that? Does this sell news better? Are the news more credible if they are presented by somebody looking like an average American housewife (not the desperate version)? OK, so I am wrong expecting bare tummies and hotpants. But where is the young and fearless prodigy reporter in leather jacket and slim fit jeans? A normal chick in a t-shirt? I mean, I've never bought everything my parents have told me, why should this scheme work any better on TV? Does it convey seriousness? Or does it convey sexism?

I need some photos to understand the look you mean.

It depends on the target market. The women on sports shows, in particular those who cover male sports, don't conform to the model you have observed, the women who work the morning shows do.

Why can't I be the target market more often?

    Some pics for the doc:

Oh, wait. There are more. Guess they are cutting down staff, and started in the stylist department.

Man CNN is really far behind in the looks category compared to Fox.

And most 'professional' women look like that when they are at work. It's kind of what is expected of you. I wouldn't go to work in jeans or a low cut top so why would they? If you want a laid back atmosphere get your news from MTV.

I doublechecked "The naked women now" should cross-connect at the bottom of this page and does not. This should be corrected by the PH staff.

I might have treated CNN a bit unfairly in that respect. Perhaps we should give the fox ladies some credit on this thread as well.

    W..h..y?

Hey, that is something different. I didn't say they were ugly. Perhaps you look stunning in your blouse and pearls. Air hostesses look great in their uniforms. But why is that a prerequisite to be "professional" Do you have an idea how sloppy scientists who do lab research can dress (kinda expensive to spill buffer on an armani suit) and when the best researchers in the world can, why can't the foxy FOX chix and the CNN babes? Ain't that funny how our perception on how people are by the way they dress can be so deceiving?

I only get my news from MTV. That's how I stay so well-informed.

I like the "adventurous" ethnic types.

I like Ms. Ahmanpour (sp?) too, but mostly I have no idea who the TV reporters are, since I get nearly all my news from NPR and newspapers. TV seems to focus only on stories with visual appeal--i.e., blood and guts.
