    The Josh Beckett "Nickname" Thread

Of these ten, which Josh Beckett "Nickname" do you like the most? And, if you could give your own nickname, what would it be?

Is Beckett the most impressive pitcher in modern post-season history? (say between 1980 and today?

    Big Game

Just for Ha Has, I wished they had tried to pitch him three times in one series. I wanted to see if he could match Gibson's amazing performances...

1967: Game one, Winner: Gibson, 1 earned run , complete game (2 to 1)
Game four, Winner: Gibson, shutout, complete game ( 6 to 0 )
Game seven, Winner: Gibson, 2 earned runs, complete game (7 to 2 )

That's 27 innings, 3 earned runs. Oh and Gibson hit a home run in game 7

It will never happen again. But Beckett is pretty good for today...

Just for the fun of it. :waving:

Ruth threw a 1-0 shutout in the opener of 1918 World Series, then won Game Four in what would be his final World Series appearance as a pitcher. In three games, Ruth was 3-0 with an 0.87 ERA, allowing 19 hits in 31 innings. Ruth extended his World Series consecutive scoreless inning streak to 29⅔ innings,[10] But since lefthanders Hippo Vaughn and Lefty Tyler pitched nearly all the innings for the Cubs, Ruth, who batted left-handed, registered only five at-bats in the Series.

My friend Joe, who is a scientist, calls him Part X. Short for particle accelerator. Says his pitches must look like little dots to the batter.

Which is why Ruth is, without question, the greatest baseball player of all time. Can you think of anyone else who was such an amazing hitter AND pitcher?

So.... we could call Beckett "Baby Ruth.." nahhh

Most would agree that the greatest pitcher of that era was Walter Johnson, yet for the years Ruth pitched during that period, his stats were better. But they needed his bat in the lineup every day. "Incredible since he did it on beer and hot dogs instead of steroids." (not my quote but I like it) Rock on Coolman!
