    Can you work it out?

I just heard this puzzle -

Three guys go to have a snack, and when the waiter brings the bill, it is £30. So they each give him £10 and off he goes to the manager with the money. The manager tells him he has overcharged them, and gives him £5 to return to them. On the way back to their table he thinks he might make a little bit out of this, so he keeps £2 and returns them £1 each = £3.

So, each customer gave £10 and received £1 in change, so each paid £9 for his meal. They paid a total of £27, and the waiter kept £2, which makes £29. But they initially paid a total of £30 - where did the other £1 go?

Who can work out what happened?

It's a case of bad math.

they paid 27 when they should have paid 25.
    27-25 = 2 (the waiter's 'tip')
30-27 = 3 (the amount they got back)

Okay, I couldn't work this out but my husband could. Your error is adding the £2 to the £27, you should take it off the £30. He refuses to explain further! :whistling: So back to your homework you go. Ah now I understand thanks TenGig

LOL! You are no fun. It wasn't bad maths, it was just a trick question.

And maths is the short form of mathematics, why do you Americans keep saying math? :whistling:
