And yeah, I know at least a couple of you will jokingly mention a news network or show. Hoot. Hoot.
My pick is (embarrassingly) Buffy the Vampire Slayer. For complex characters, a well-drawn mythology, and consistently great storytelling.

The best fiction-based television show ever, in my humble opinion....would be 'The Prisoner', which first aired on TV in 1967 (10 years before I was born) and it was created and starred Patrick McGoohan....and it's VERY original, and surreal, and curious, and bizarre, and fab and it's damn well BRILLIANT!
Here, this gives rather a good rundown of what 'The Prisoner' is all about and whatnot:

The Sopranos. Awsome acting, great, gritty and realistic story. I love the symbolism and depth of the show like the phsychiatry sessions, Tony's obsession with the ducks, etc. Also, the theme song kicks ass.
Luckily I don't watch a lot of TV, so I don't really know.
But I know that the only thing that guy McGuyver couldn't do, was jump through time, so I'll go for Quantum Leap (my dad always made me watch it, so it kinda stands out from the rest)
P.S. I hope this isn't anybody elses vote for real!!
Twin Peaks, loved the movie too.
I was bummed when they solved Laura's murder.
