In the past decade or so I've been looking on awards shows as pretty much the death throws of a mudered culture... and a lot of Canadians have been commenting that as close as we are to US culture, especially entertainment, when we watch awards shows it just looks like aliens. There is nothing of the culture we know on display there.
However... I thought yesterday was all class. The host was fine, and like you said, everybody was so nicely composed.
The biggest change was the speeches. Finally the 8 minute list of meaningless thank yous was greatly reduced. Only a handful of people came completely unprepared to say a single think except thanking their agent. Wittiker (Sp) and the Queen lady had great speeches. The presenters wer rarely painfully, painfully lame (except the kids, but thats ok they were cute).
Two thumbs up from Dr. Knuckles.
