Default Gates seen more likely to stay as Pentagon chief

Gates seen more likely to stay as Pentagon chief

What Robert Gates once called "inconceivable to me" — his remaining as defense secretary beyond Inauguration Day — is looking a bit more conceivable to the rest of Washington.

In a signing statement, Bush declared that he will ignore legislation that forbids the establishment of “any military base for the purpose of providing for the permanent stationing of United States Armed Forces in Iraq,” and legislation that impedes U.S. actions “to exercise United States control of the oil resources of Iraq.”

What would be wrong with that. He is not the unfappable Rumsfeild who was so set in his ways that he could not cvhange or adapt to changing conditions in the field. Gates is down to earth and has common sense, and listens to his advisers as people with knowledge and perspective. Do you see some thing else.

Im about to show you whats wrong with it and other things.

I'm going to keep shoving this "change" thing in their face, because they shoved it in ours for over a year.

It's time for them to put up or shut up.

Social libertarian with a dash of rational anarchism.

Sounds good to me. I'll wait till Jan. 21st before I say anything, one way or the other. Till then, I just wanna make sure Bushie leaves QUIETLY and COMPLETELY.

We must hang together, gentlemen, else we will surely hang separately.

What would be wrong with keeping Gates in? Who would you like to see to that position, some knothead senator?
