The above sentence makes no sense. If as you said, the Old Testament did not use the word Jew, how would that have anything to do with the issue as to whether the concept of believing in a single God is credible or not.
More to the point you show your ignorance as to the word Jew. The word comes from the hebrew word יהודים or
Yehudim which is the plural form of יהודי or
Yehudi.
This is where the English word Jew comes from, this Hebrew word. The Hebrew word is simply a reference to the geographic region known in English as Judah or יהודה , Yehudah in Hebrew.
All that name does is refer to a geographic area where a tribe descended from Judah lived. As you obviously are unaware, Judaj was the fourth of twelve sons of Jacob and was the name used for one of the 12 tribes that left Egypt with Moses.
Had you bothered before you wrote your thread to try rsearch the BIble instead of assuming you understand it, you would have found out that it is in Genesis, when Judah's mother gave him his name and so where the word originates.
The name Judah is the combination of the Hebrew words for "praise" and "God".
Kings David and Solomon were said to be the descendants of Judah.
The name became used for the southern geographic district where the kingdom of Judah would have been situated. It would also have been the site for two other tribes, the members of Benjamin and Simeon.
Had you bothered tio at least make an effort to edicate yourself you would have found out after a war destroyed the northern kingdom called Israel causing 10 tribes to be exiled, the southern kingdom of Judah ended up the sole remaining Jewish state and the that is why the name
y'hudi (יהודי) or in English Jew then started to be used to describe all the Jews that remained behind.
Judah is a tetragram it abbreviates the 4 letters standing for God. Judah has always been used as another way of saying Israelite.
As for your stating there is no use of the word Jew in the Old Testament you are wrong of course. All you have to do is go to Esther 8:17(2).
Now I have taken the time to provide the above knowledge because I believe the best way to deal with ignorance is to confront it head on with informtion to rebutt it. If anyone doubts what I have said, check with our Christian Bible guys on this forum like Lakeman who probably are more versed in the Bible's words then me but can back me up with their better knowledge of the Bible or anyone who is more "Jewish" then me. I do not claim to be the most religious guy. I try to read but I am by no means a Bible scholar. Just a shmuck.
That said I did notice something else that pisses me off. I do note the person who started this thread did not take to long to use the code words "Kazar Jews."
If anyone is interested the people who refer to Jews as Kazars are suprise, suprise the same people who usually can be found at Stormfront and the Aryan Brotherhood and other white supremacist web sites. Kazar Jew has become a code word to insult Jews and let other skin heads know what you are up to without looking obvious at least so I have found over the last 10 years.
So I ask the person who started this thread, what is your agenda and challenge you. Did you not come on this forum to say something deliberately inciteful to try start a thread to rationalize insulting Jews for their beliefs?
What was your point using the word Kazar Jew and why would you start your thread by making a statement that has nothing to do with your belief in God and why you would or would not believe in God but does suggest you question Judaism and its followers and do not agree with their religion.
If you don't bully for you. Many of us Judahites do not follow every word of our religion either and in that respect we are no different then modern Christians or Muslims or atheists, etc.
Regards, Judah.
