Default ID cards for Ages 5 and Older in Florida... Right Now.

Folks,

One of the arguments used against me when I speak against the Real ID Act and the need to label and identify every American, I get refuted with the argument that there are a lot of Americans, especially pre-teens that can't be tracked because they aren't eligble for ID. That a huge part of the population would be missed in a National Tracking effort. Especially when they decide to chip the ID's with RFID in 2008.

At the time, I couldn't argue back. This was a different board that no longer exists, but the debate stayed in my mind.

Today, the debate is ended. In Florida, this was posted on the wall of the local DMV and if you live in that state, you can go down to your local office and read it yourself. I recreated the document here and triple checked it for accuracy before even doing a post preview. I want no misunderstanding of what was written.
--------------

FDLIS 8.2006 RELEASE
September 27, 2006
FDLIS Bulletin 06-003
Legislative Changes Effective October 1, 2006

ID Cards Issuance - Five Years of Age or Older

The minimum age for the issuance of an identification card for customers without disabilities has been lowered to age five, per Section 322.051 (1), Florida Statutes. Fees statewide for an original identification card are $3.00 and fees for a renewal or duplicate are $10.00. If a minor is unable to sign his or her name, the accompanying adult may sign the minor's name on his or her behalf. Please list the accompanying adult's name on the remarks line of the FDLIS application review screen.

The current procedures regarding identification requirements remain in effect. Customers obtaining an original ID card will be required to show original or certified copies of primary and/or secondary documents prior to issuance. In addition, these documents are required to be scanned.

Instances that would be beneficial for this process include but are not limited to:

CHILD ABDUCTION
INMATE VISITATION
AIRPORTS
BANK ACCOUNTS

ID obtained at the County Tax Collectors Officer add $5.25 fee.

George Albright, Tax Collector
--------------------

Of that list of benefits I could see positive are for child abductions. But... even that is weak since kids's features change so rapidly over a year's time that it would make it unfeasable to use. What does having their birth certificates and social security cards scanned and stored have to do with it? Oh yeah, 2008 they will need to chip the new ID's with that in a transferable format. If you been following the Real ID Act, you will know that is a requirement for all states by 2008.

Inmate visitations? I don't see where bringing a kid to prison to visit their father, uncle, older brother or mother would be considered illegal activity without an ID. What the hell?

Airports? How many age 5 and up kids flew planes into buildings or who were fighting for the insurgency? Even so, they all ready search kids and babies at airports anyways. Photo id for kids at airports.. what, they going to start a 'watch' list for possible terrorist children?

Bank accounts? In the State of Florida, you have to be 18 or older to have a bank account. An adult can open a savings account in 'trust' of a child, and that's it. This is total bull.

I have a problem with this whole thing. Children shouldn't be required to have a State ID card, period, for any purposes. Keep an eye open in your State. You may be next to get your kids set up for a labeling process by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

GW posts here? COOL!! Hey W, see you at the picnic next week!!

I have ID cards for the kids. They get them free at school when they take their class photo. It may not be the same as what's been posted above, but it seems close enough.

GW,

Student ID cards are being used in Florida too, but the database is limited in access, under the supervision of educators since it is a 'school' ID and is primarily used for attendence and library fines. Having that school ID in no way allows anyone access to the child's permanent school records. A student ID is not required for travel in our country.

The State ID cards will have their birth certificate and social secuirty on file and will be in a State database that is accessable to pretty much every business and official in any part of the State, and in 2008, in a transferable format that is interlinked nationally. It will be a candy grab by Identity Theives because it will take over a decade before any credit is officially checked by the owner of the SSN number. A 5 year old will need an ID to board a plane or enter a Federal Building, according to the Florida Statutes, as they are trying to comply with the Real ID Act in their own twisted way.

That is the difference.

Ahh, well that is something else entirely!! Seems very "1984" (the book, not the year) doesn't it?

They lowered the minimum age, but did they make it mandatory? Anyone who would get this card for a child and put that information on it is a damned fool in my opinion.

When will people realize that these id cards are superficial and simply don't apply in the real world. They serve no purpose. Oh Oberdan, sometimes I get the distinct impression that you and I are the only sane ones left in this world. When I look at this, I can't help but ask what Benjamin Franklin would have to say about all this.

Wow its like 1984 but with tracking. This is stupidest idea ever. Ids with chips should never be made.

I am following RealID Act and RealID since the beginning. The date has been pushed back on the deadline of RID to 2009 but that is only to be up and running. Most states are almost capable.

All I can say is that if you resist anything in your life, resist RealID.

I had a student card from kindergarten and a Social Insurance card from 15. A passport from 10 and was fingerprinted in grade 3 when the practice was introduced.
