What are you talking about? Viable and legit are not the same things. The Libertarian Party isn't a viable party, but it's legit.

If you look at the definition of legitimate that I think you are using here (the “in accordance with established standards” definition), many people can and do “view” the Libertarian Party as not legitimate. Of course, as far as meeting the law, it does fit that definition; however, it is not part of the standard, traditional two-party system, which is why people “view” it as not legitimate.
The same goes for your statement about people’s “view” of Mormonism, since some of its teachings are not part of main-stream, established Christian traditions/standards.

What ever dude. Libertarianism is a philosophy first and an organizationn second. All I know is that most Americans consider Mormonism a cult and not a legit branch of Christianity. This isn't an opinion, it's established facts. Look it up if you don't beleive me.

And ..........WHY?......... does that matter to us? Most do not know anything about us so they are ignorant so their opinions aren't worth a handful of spit.

I also see Christianity as a philosophy first and an organization second. People can follow Christian teachings and not be part of a Christian religion.
I think you are only partially right; there are Americans that “consider” Mormonism as a cult. Where you seem to be wrong is your opinion that it is “most Americans”. You have given nothing to back up your claim on this and did ask me to “look it up”, so I did look this up and here is some unbiased evidence which does suggest you are wrong. The PewResearchCenter conducted a poll just last year about Islam, Mormonism, the Pope. Please take a look at Section 2 of this link, which gives the results of the poll for questions about Mormonism:
Pew Research Center Poll - Islam, Mormonism
Here are some highlights:
Quote:
|
Overall, a slim majority of the public (53%) expresses a favorable view of Mormons, while 27% view Mormons unfavorably.

|
A slim majority of the public (52%) says that Mormonism is a Christian religion, while nearly one-in-three (31%) say that Mormonism is not a Christian religion.
|
These two results indicate that not only to “most” Americans view Mormonism as a legitimate Christian religion, but the majority do.

There also are substantial educational differences in opinions about Mormons: 64% of college graduates express favorable opinions of Mormons, as do 56% of those with some college experience. But fewer than half of those with a high school education or less (45%) have a positive impression of Mormons.
|
These “substantial” differences seem to indicate that at least some ignorance plays a role in people’s perception, as with anything.
Lastly, in the “Mormonism in a Word” portion, there were less than 4% of respondents that used the word “cult”; quite a small number if you ask me.

Kudos on the spirited rebutall of my assertion that most people think Mormonism is a cult, but if you think about it, 1/3 of the public having a negative opinion on your religion is nothing to be proud of.
Any religion that beleives in sacred underwear is a cult to me.
