Invest in Alternative Fuels

DEMOCRATIC PROMISE #20: Invest in Alternative Fuels
Promise: “Besides encouraging the biofuel market and infrastructure, it also aims to encourage coal-to-liquids as an alternative fuel through the U.S. military’s purchasing power. The majority leader said the bill is complementary to the rural working group’s biofuels act and has the support of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell, D-Mich.”

As long as were talking about bio-fuels, why did the Democrats kill this bill in committee?
Quote:

A month and four days, that's all that bill had to live. Steny said they would be "encouraging the biofuel market and infrastructure". Guess not. In 2006 the Democrats promised energy independence, does anyone think this is the way to get there? Letting important bill like this die in committee? The bills I've been posting with the Democrat promises were introduced while they were busy launching 300 investigations in the first 100 days. They were trying to get shorty, while important bills like this paramount to our country and their campaign promises slowly starved to death for attention. They argue while Rome burns around them. Partisan politics at its worst.

My posts aren't an endorsement of any policy but the truth. House Democrats seem to have a big problem with that. They made a ton of promises prior to the 2006 elections that got them the majority in Congress, I am just pointing out how they said one thing and are doing exactly the opposite. Myself I would like to see both sides of the aisle unceremoniously ejected on their next election cycle and replaced with someone new. It's painfully obvious to me, experience in Congress just means their better liars.

I think it is generally acknowledged now that biodiesel is problematic as an independent energy source. If this law would have encouraged it, the Democrats did well to put it down.
If you can't change policy in the light of new information, then we might as well simply vote for laws directly every couple of years, and simply live with consequences. (Which of course would create economic and social mayhem)

Corn ethanol is a "problematic" biofuel. You can thank the corn lobby (and
Bob Dole as their toady) for that gigantic waste of tax money.
Brazil is doing very well with their efforts:
USATODAY.com - Brazil hopes to build on its ethanol success
Our government is so partisan and corrupt it's just no longer capable of
competent work.

It's sad that a third world country is making more technologically savvy
decisions than the U.S. and implementing them with the "get it done"
attitude that Americans used to have.

Don't forget Barack Obama, who can credit his Iowa caucus victory to supporting the sugar tariff which benefits corporate agribusiness interests in corn ethanol, and prevents us from developing efficient Brazil-style ethanol.

Now if they could just do something about their complete lack of a middle class and the roving bands of homeless street children huffing every inhalant known to man. Praise those big government policies! Fuck yeah!
