Schwarzenegger orders cuts amid fiscal crisis
Quote:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- With California's cash dwindling and legislators still debating a new budget, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger eliminated 22,000 part-time and temporary state positions Thursday and ordered that 200,000 state workers receive the federal minimum wage.

Here............
Yep sure am glad Bush and bots think the economy is doing fine, else wise these 200,000 state employees might starve or lose their homes, or may be not be able to but clothes for their children, or maybe not be able to afford medicine, or pay down their credit cards, or pay for the niceties. Yep it's sure a damn good thing ok.

I live a little over a mile from the Capitol building, not that I know more because of it, but my Brother and Sister are state workers and from what I've been told...the usual Ahhnold threats are timed to happen around State Workers Union cost of living negotiations. But this round has everyone scared because of the sucky economy. Just pray. Thanks 911 Republicans

I was recently interviewed by a Fox News reporter who was writing a story based on information he was given by "informed sources. He told me that he knew his sources were at best misinformed, or, at worst, lying. In response to my asking him why he would write a story based on lies, and why he wants my comments he said "I need your comments because they give the story balance"...

From what I am getting, this is signed sealed and delivered.
Quote:
His signing of the executive order had been expected since last week but stood as a stark illustration of the cash problem facing the nation's most populous state. Schwarzenegger apologized to state workers but said he had no choice.
"Today I am exercising my executive authority to avoid a full-blown crisis and keep our state moving forward," Schwarzenegger said. "This is not an action I take lightly."

Re: Schwarzenegger orders cuts amid fiscal crisis
Actually (and Im not going to swear to this) you are both right. The Executive Order he signed is not permanant. The budget for this fiscal year 2008-2009 hasnt been approved yet, so we have to wait and see. But this happens in the state every year. Mostly the effects will be delaying of payments to outside contractors (such as my agency).
I work for an agency which has several State contracts. Our final budgets wont be finalized until the state budget is, but we still continue with our services. Of course, payment is also delayed.
Personally, I feel its a bit of grandstanding on Arnolds part. What its really going to do is serve to piss Californians off more then anything.
Once the budget is finalized, things will get back to order.

First of all it is California and that is trouble in itself. Our state is doing well so with your view that is a plus for GW.California has been in trouble from its own doings not from Bush.
