Rather than doing the Mexican hat dance around the issue, and claiming it's true, then provide a link saying that a private business is legally required to determine that someone is legally entitled to own a home based on possesion of a social security number as verified by the escrow officer.

I thought you said it was law that they had to have a Social Security number, that you legally had to not close on their home if they did not, and now this guy, who managed to get a loan (not from your beloved Banco Popular but from Citibank no less) was able to close on his house?

Awesome Trip. Seems I was right all along. You don't know the law, you are not an escrow agent, and you are not legally required to not close on a house if the guy is an illegal, nor was his legal status even an issue.

In order to open a checking account (as verified by my personal bank) at least here in California you need to physically possess your State ID and have (though not possess) your social security number. I would assume as an existing custermer with financial records on file, the process is made easier.
