I use to run an ad in our local newspaper on a 12 month contract, and a business card size ad was $2500. Their sell was my company's name needed to be seen often, for it to sink into people psyches. I feel I barely broke even on that cost.
FB is free and I can target certain businesses that are more likely to need my services.
It's done better than the newspaper has, and I can maintain a personal relationship with my clients.
Google has been a big seller for me since inception. My company name starts with a number, so it always came before 'A'.
