Some experts say people who wear contact lenses should take caution with the summer months just around the corner.
In Florida, numerous cases have been reported of fungal infections due to fusarium. Fusarium is a fungus that grows in soil and vegetable matter, and it can cause blindness in the eye, if untreated.
Dr. Robert Berry, a corneal disease specialist in Little Rock, says fusarium can often be contracted through outdoor activities such as lawn-mowing or four-wheeling.
He recommends against using extended wear contacts, which can trap the fungus against the eye for days.
A lot of eye infections can be avoided by the contact-wearer through daily maintenence which includes disinfecting the contact
