There is research into a vaccine that will block the effects of cocaine on the brain so that no matter how much a person takes they will not get "high". Human trials have started and it shows promise as a solution to addiction.

Never liked the stuff... don't know why, but I did a couple rails at a party last weekend, and as usual, found myself asking why I did that. Give me the orgasm... that's the fattest buzz out there.

What is it the 80's ?? Opiates are far more addictive. Seems like there is a much larger problem with pain killer adiction these days than there is wth cocaine.

I think this is a great development. It's still in the early stages, according to the articles, but if this can be turned into a real treatment, it could help many people trying to shake this addiction.

True, there are drugs that more people are addicted to, but that doesn't take away from the value of developing a counter for this addiction. Moreover, the cost of cocaine addiction to society in terms of criminal activity and lives ruined is extremely high. The crack form of cocaine is perhaps the most psychologically addictive (though not physiologically) substance ever discovered.

So while it is also true that people who are addicted to this drug made a bad choice to ever try it, it's good that we are working on ways to help those who now choose to stop.

And I agree and it is one that is already biting us in the arse. Already we have difficulties with opiate dependant people who have high tolerance. Once they go under the knife pain relief becomes almost impossible via traditional routes.
